I’m obsessed with … USA Olympics

Let’s get real, who’s not?

From the Women’s Gymnastics Fab 5 to Mr. Phelps and Mr. Lochte to swim sensation Missy Franklin to the volleyball, rowing, diving and basketball … you name it, I probably watch it.

To date, my top 5 fave moments include:

  1. Gabby winning the Women’s Gymnastics all-around — what a little rockstar!
  2. Men’s Diving bronze medal win for David Boudia and Nick McCrory in the 10-meter platform.
  3. Missy Franklin’s first gold medal for the 100-meter backstroke.
  4. Anything including Michael Phelps and/or Ryan Lochte.
  5. Fab 5 clinching the Women’s Gymnastics GOLD.

As I write this, we are trailing the medal count by 1 from China — they have 61 and we have 60. But I have faith that we’ll pull out a W by the end of the games.

Overall I think that there is just something about the Games that unites a country (red, white & blue!!) and I love our daily morning conversations at work that typically start with “Did you see [insert event name here] last night??! Unreal.”

I love it. I also love knowing that our Olympians are normal, have fun and are… goofy. Enjoy:

The plan was for today’s blog post to be a NYE recap. Then I realized that I had so much fun ringing in 2012 that I basically neglected to take photographic or video evidence of my fun. The food was fab. The drinks were dope. And to top it off … I have a great feeling about 2012.

Here are the handful of the photos I actually took:

To make up for my negligence… here is a great link to 20 New Year’s Resolutions For 20-Somethings

Small sample of resolutions:

  1. Crap or get off the pot. This applies to whatever thing you’re not doing that you should just sack up and do already.
  2. If you’re still blacking out regularly, you should stop.
  3. Call someone on the phone at least once a week, and speak to him or her for at least ten minutes.

And so many more. While it states 20-somethings, this blog does not support age-discrimination. Resolutions for all ages!

So read it.

I’m obsessed with … New Years Resolutions

New Years Resolutions!

The fad that usually lasts through January, forgotten by February.

I love a good New Years Resolution. By definition via Wikipedia, a New Years Resolution is a commitment that a person makes to one or more lasting personal goals, projects, or the reforming of a habit. The two most popular resolutions fall under two categories: (1) Health or (2) Money. Most years I fall under the first category — workout more, eat more vegetables, take up yoga. But this year I’m shaking things up and jumping to category 2!

2012 New Years Resolution:

Live off a legit budget in 2012 … and save some money for LASIK, travel and an emergency fund.

I also have a secondary resolution to drink more water, but that’s not really here nor there.

Budget. Saving money. I’ve always been aware of the money I have but I tend to just spend it randomly. This resolution is going to take some time and organization — I’ll have to determine my monthly income, allocate that money to different categories (i.e. rent, utilities, cell phone, groceries) then add a new category: savings. I’m hoping to go on a trip (big or small) once every 3 months then also create a 3-month emergency fund by the end of the year. What is a 3-month emergency fund? To me, it’s enough to cover my fixed expenses for 3-months. By 2013 I’ll be set! Think I’ll actually do it? Here’s hoping…

What was your New Years Resolution? Will you stick to it?

Special Edition: NYE Menu

I’m over the whole “pay $150+ to go to an over-crowded bar for new years” thing. Been there. Done that.

Instead some co-workers and I have decided to ring in 2012 with a fancy dinner and house party. Awesome food? Awesome friends? I’m in. We’ve decided that the ladies will cook and the men will be in charge of drinks … so here starts the first installment of our NYE menu, a sampling of recipes we’ll be testing out:
