Tuesday #top5 Packing List

Sunday = Jamaica!! Petersen Family Vacation 2012 sans my bro.

I literally am beyond excited at this point. Being the planner that I am, I’ve already started my packing list for my week of relaxation, sun and time spent with my parents. Here are the #top5 items on my packing list:

(1) Swim Suit — duh. My #1 outfit of choice in Jamaica will be a swimsuit. Soaking up that sun!!

[Victoria’s Secret Swim top + bottom, $42]

(2) Cover-up — en route to and from the beach in style … need to have a comfortable and stylish look!

[Victoria’s Secret, $34.50; Target, $17.99]

(3) Summer Hat — I feel as though my time spent in the sun will require protection above and beyond sunscreen. The answer? A hat!!

[J.Crew Summer Straw Hat, $34.50]

(4) Sunglasses — since LASIK I rarely go outside with eye protection. Sunglasses are a must.

[Ray-Ban RB3362 004/N1 COCKPIT, $150]

(5) Maxi Dress — for lounging or for dinner, a maxi dress is perfect vacation evening wear. Relaxing and comfortable yet stylish and sexy. This is my most recent fave:

[No longer available, similar here Gap, $50-70]

Anything I’m missing? Any recommendations for my packing list or to do list in Jamaica? All ideas are welcome!

Tuesday #top5 Bags

My cross-body bag is on its’ last legs — literally. A time like this is always bittersweet. Sad to say good-bye to my current bag. But exciting to start the search for my next bag!!

I’ve decided that my next bag will be an “investment piece”. The qualifications for my bag? It needs to be a neutral color because I’ll be using it on a daily basis. It needs to be roomy enough to carry my essentials (i.e. wallet, sunglasses, keys, etc). I need to be obsessed with it.

Here are the #top5 on my list in no particular order…

(1) Kate Spade Gold Coast Elizabeth — in black, $398

(2) MARC BY MARC JACOBS Classic Q Ukita — in mink, $528

(3) Longchamp “Le Pliage – Small” Shoulder Tote — in beige, $125

(4) Kate Spade Cobble Hill Small Leslie — in black, $348

(5) Louis Vitton Artsy MM — in Monogram canvas, $1,670

I’m open to other recommendations because these may or may not be outside my possible price range. Am I missing any of your favorites?

Tuesday #top5 Summer Style

I suppose this could be considered my second dive into the world of fashion via blog. Check out my first attempt here with mint green, seriously love. Taking that out of the equation, here are my #top5 summer fashion trends:

(1) Neon

I’m not a “go big or go home” girl when it comes to neon. A small dose makes a big impact. I love neon three ways: accessories (jewelry, belts, nail polish, etc), swimwear and workout clothing/gear:

(2) Colored Jeans

I’ve loved colored jeans ever since Milan Akerman wore them last fall. Since then it seems everyone is testing out the rainbow, and I am too:

(3) Maxi

Skirt, dress, solid, print … you cannot go wrong with this simple, comfortable style. Perfect for a day at the office, running errands or bumming around the city:

(4) Lace

I love how lace bumps up any look a notch. It’s lady-like and sophisticated but can also be stylish and fun:

(5) White jeans

My Gram loves wearing white. Always has, always will. I’ll never forget the day Gram wore all white to go hiking. A true class act. I absolutely love white … specifically white jeans:

Tuesday #top5 Ice Cream

The warm weather means that one of my favorite treats is more socially acceptable: ice cream!

Check out my #top5:

(1) Breyer’s Oreo Birthday Blast!

Heaven in my mouth. Cake flavored ice cream with Oreos and sprinkles in honor of Oreo’s 100th birthday. Um I’ll take seconds…

(2) Whitey’s Mint Chocolate Chip

I grew up with Whitey’s, a Quad Cities tradition since 1933. In addition to supporting local business, it is hands down amazing ice cream. My go-to? Mint Chocolate Chip! Close seconds are Graham Central Station or Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.

(3) Breyer’s Waffle Cone with Chocolatey Chips Blast!

Lin brought this specific ice cream into my life. I will forever be in her debt because it is awesome. Hits the spot with chocolate-covered waffle cone pieces, chocolate chips and caramel swirls. YUM!

(4) Whitey’s Viking Pride

Created in honor of Augustana’s 150th Anniversary, Whitey’s Viking Pride is peanut butter ice cream with fudge swirls and Oreo chunks. In addition, Augustana and Whitey’s tackled the Guinness World Record of the longest chain of people licking ice cream. Delicious and awesome.

(5) Ben & Jerry’s Chunky Monkey

I’d wanted to try this flavor forever. I finally gave in and bought it for our Bachelor finale party this past winter. Best decision ever. I love banana-flavored anything. I love chocolate. And the walnuts remind me that I’m still being healthy? Ha! Regardless it is delicious.

Tuesday #top5

The weather forecast this week reminds me that it’s time to swap out the winter boots for my summer shoes! LOVE this time of the year. If you’re looking to replenish your shoe wardrobe, here is my #top5 guide to summer shoes:

(1) Wedges

My fave shoe trend. It’s hard to believe wedges are actually comfortable. My go-to pair are these from Target, or I love this pair too. Affordable and stylish? Love.

(2) Sperrys

I love wearing my Sperrys in case I ever find myself on a boat. Also because (after breaking them in) they are unbelievably comfortable and the perfect ‘daily wear’ pair of summer shoes.

(3) TOMS

There are so many reasons to support TOMS. #1 is that for every pair you purchase, a pair is donated to a child in need. One for one. Hard to argue. Another reason? They feel like slippers on your feet. Perfect for a day touring around the city!

(4) Go-To Peep-Toe Pumps

I absolutely am obsessed with my go-to nude pumps. Why? They match everything and dress up any summery outfit. This specific pair is the Aldo Hayth, but check out all their nude shoes here.

(5) Sandals

Every girl needs a go-to, multi-use flat sandal. Not only do these go with any summery outfit, they’re also the perfect alternative to those plastic thong sandals we all grew up with. Check out this pair from Target – where else?!

Tuesday #top5 MINT

I realize I don’t often dabble into the style/fashion-category, but I literally cannot ignore this trend because I am 150% on board: MINT. It’s cool, sexy, springy, flirty and fun. Here are my #top5 favorite ways to incorporate this trend into your life, because if I can do it? You can totally do it:

[Splurge at Barneys] [Save at Urban Outfitters]

[Splurge at Prada] [Save at Forever 21]

[Splurge at Topshop] [Save at Old Navy]

[Queen’s Wardrobe is apparently the only place in town with this trench]

Whether you go with Essie, OPI, China Glaze, Revlon, etc … you cannot go wrong with mint nails. Love!

Some faves that didn’t make the top 5? Jewelry, skirt, dress, top, shoes, belt, scarf … ice cream?!

Check out some of my favorite bloggers taking on the MINT:

Tuesday #top5

As I approach my 8-month mark as a self-proclaimed blogger, I feel the need to make a couple of adjustments. We all celebrated the addition of Travel Addict posts. And now … another reason to celebrate: the creation of Tuesday #top5

What is Tuesday #top5?

It’s my top 5 favorite things of a different category each week, all equally awesome. And I highly recommend you hop on my bandwagon of favorites…

Inaugural top 5? TV shows.

(1) New Girl

This weekly 30-minute comedy has been a welcome addition to my life, and I would argue is about 30-minutes too short. New Girl literally has Lin and I LOLing each week … sometimes to the point of tears. Zooey Deschanel hits a home run as Jess and her life with three male roommates, Nick, Schmidt & Winston. Check it out:

(2) Smash

I love Broadway. Smash has reignited this love. Stand out performances by the entire cast as they are putting together a Broadway show Bombshell about the life of Marilyn Monroe. Specifically, I love Katherine McPhee. Click here to check out my favorite song to-date. SO. GOOD.

(3) Parenthood

Parenthood is an hour-long drama that follows the life of the ever-exciting and imperfect Braverman family. I literally cannot get enough and feel like I’m a Braverman when I’m watching … OBSESSED. You may think that’s odd, but everyone I’ve talked to that watches feels the same way. I am on the edge of my seat for the announcement of the Season 4 premiere!

(4) Glee

Glee Season 1 was unbeatable and then … ? Tanked. I normally just continue to watch because I’m a loyal viewer, but recently it’s made a comeback that I’m pretty excited about. The Whitney episode was remarkable and over the course of the show there have been a significant number of song renditions I actually like better than the original, for example:

(5) ABC Reality Shows – DWTS, Bachelor, Bachelorette, Bachelor Pad

That’s right. I’m a sucker for these shows. Whether the initiative to watch stems from day-after recaps or the hilarious blog posts I read on the shows or just pure enjoyment (so bad they’re good) – I love them and at any given time, one of them is keeping me entertained.
